Western Rackets Squash Centre was built in 1978 by “Squash Promotions” – the second oldest Public Squash Club in South Africa! The legendary Geoff Hunt played the first exhibition match as part of the opening of the club. Since then the club changed hands a few times and in the early nineties 4 courts were added to the existing 8. This made Western Rackets one of the largest Squash facilities in the country by virtue of the number of courts. It is the ideal club for both social and the more serious league players.
The club is situated in Roodepoort and is one of the only Squash Clubs remaining in the western parts of Gauteng. It is within easy reach of areas like Florida, Roodepoort, Krugersdorp (the old Krugersdorp Squash club was demolished!), Helderkruin, Constantia Kloof, Wilro Park, Horison and many more.
Western Rackets is privileged to have some of the best players in South Africa! We won “Club of the Year” in 2016. 6 of the Gauteng league teams won their respective sections (including 1st league).
Coaching is available. Our head coach, Devon Hendrikse is a top 5 player in South Africa and under his direction a team of coaches offer individual / group coaching to all standards of player – from beginner to advanced.
2016 was furthermore exceptional. We had the privilege of hosting the current World Champion, Karim Abdul Gawad (World No 2) and Tarek Momen (World No 6) at our club for an exhibition match. More than 140 people attended this once in a lifetime showpiece!
Everyone is welcome to come and experience a great atmosphere where people can come to relax and at the same time get healthy and fit.
